WHAT IS A HAIR TRANSPLANT?
A hair transplant is a surgical procedure that involves removing hair follicles from one part of the head (or the “donor site”) and transplanting them to the thinning area (the “recipient site”). Both men and women who are bothered by hair loss can benefit from hair transplantation.
WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR A HAIR TRANSPLANT?
Candidates for hair transplants include individuals with:
- Well-defined male pattern baldness or female pattern baldness
- Hair loss from scarring, scalp injuries, certain surgery procedures, or damaging hair styles
- Healthy scalps, good donor area hair, and are in generally good health
WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED WITH A HAIR TRANSPLANT?

WHAT IS FOLLICULAR UNIT EXTRACTION (FUE)?
Follicular unit extraction is a minimally invasive hair transplantation procedure. Follicular units, or groups of 1 to 4 hair follicles, are individually extracted from the patient’s donor site, where the hair is healthy, and transplanted into the patient’s recipient site, where the area is bald or the hair is thinning. This procedure leaves patients looking natural with more hair density. FUE has a quick recovery time and does not have linear scarring.
WHAT IS FOLLICULAR UNIT TRANSPLANTATION (FUT)?
Follicular unit transplantation, also known as the “strip method”, involves removing a small strip of the scalp from the back of the head which will become the “donor site”, where hair is healthy. This procedure does leave a minimal linear scar that will be hidden by the new, dense hair growth surrounding it.
WHAT IS HAIRLINE LOWERING?
Hairline lowering, or forehead reduction surgery, is a procedure that moves the hairline down on the forehead. Hairline lowering can be a great solution to balance your facial proportions if you feel your forehead is too long for your face, or your hairline has retracted due to genetics or from your hairstyles. WHAT IS HAIR TRANSPLANT SCAR REVISION?
Hair transplant scar revision involves revising an undesirable scar that formed from a previous hair transplant. Our board certified surgeons have a light touch and artistic eye making them experts at scar revisions.

Dr. Robert Drummond is an experienced physician with a world class education at Morehouse College and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where he received both his MD and his PhD in Cellular and Molecular Medicine. After completing an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at LAC+USC Medical Center in Los Angeles, Dr. Drummond finalized his training with a postdoctoral research fellowship at UCLA.
Dr. Drummond is dedicated to equality in healthcare for all patients. He understands the complexities that exist when treating hair loss in all hair types and uses the most scientific approach, often combining medicine and surgery to achieve the best outcome. He is excited to partner with Dr. Truesdale to offer a full suite of hair restoration solutions for everyone.
DR. CARL TRUESDALE
Dr. Carl Truesdale is an otolaryngologist (Head and Neck Surgeon), and facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon. His advanced knowledge of hair restoration, facial anatomy, and his artist’s eye enable him to deliver natural-looking results for all hair restoration procedures. Dr. Truesdale truly feels that his mission on this earth is to restore confidence, one patient at a time.
Before completing five years of specialized surgery training in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the top-ranked University of Michigan, he earned his M.D. at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. and B.S. from Morehouse College.
Dr. Truesdale completed a facial plastic surgery fellowship in Beverly Hills, CA. He now owns and operates Truesdale Facial Plastic Surgery in Beverly Hills. While exploring his passion for hair restoration he created the Crown Hair Institute in order to address the complexities that come with treating hair loss in all hair types at an affordable price.
